Abstract: In this talk, we will first review the development of discrete choice models and then discuss the advances and applications in revenue management. In particular, we will showcase the threshold effects on consumer choice behavior and firms’ operations problems, including estimation in different data structure, and assortment and price optimization in various settings. The research on the threshold effects goes beyond analytical modeling and algorithm development under traditional discrete choice models because threshold itself can be directly used to model choice/purchase behavior. Various studies on real data show that incorporating these new features on threshold effects into modeling, estimation and optimization could substantially increase firms’ performances including forecast accuracy and revenue/profit.
